HUMAN TRAFFICKING AWARENESS FOR K-12 SCHOOLS

Connect for Freedom provides a wealth of resources, information and much needed guidance for K-12 education stakeholders on the unique role they can play in combating human trafficking. We provide lesson plans for teachers, student campaigns, parent materials, and faculty training. We also provide an implementation guide for superintendents and principals with step-by-step guidance on how to support teachers to implement the program and how to create a coordinated and collaborative response with local law enforcement, prosecutors, and health care providers.

Our training materials, guides, and presentations provide online safety and human trafficking awareness and are in accordance with the 2022 NJ Curriculum Mandate and NJ State Guidelines N.J.S.A. 18A:6-131.2-131.3.

WE PROVIDE

  • Lesson Plans that include informational videos, real life  survivor stories, enrichment activities, and student assessments. We also provide educational posters and handouts for the classroom.
  • Student Engagement includes campaigns that teachers and students can collaborate on and run during Human Trafficking Awareness Month in January or anytime during the year to bring awareness to their school. It also includes advocacy initiatives that we recommend for high school students to engage with their local community and create lasting change.
  • School District Implementation Guide & Response Protocol for K-12 administrators, superintendents, and principals that outline a step-by-step process to implement this program. It includes a detailed explanation on how to engage teachers and parents, how to access materials and how to collaborate with local law enforcement, prosecutor’s offices, and hospitals. It also includes a response protocol for the school to follow if a student is a victim of human trafficking.
  • School Display Kits for K-12 schools that provide detailed instructions on how to set up a display that is impactful and age appropriate, covering topics such as personal safety, online safety, online enticement, sextortion, and human trafficking.
  • After School Programs should be created that focus on the importance of healthy relationships and forming strong bonds between students and faculty. The goal is to educate students on what healthy relationships look like so that they don’t fall victim to online enticement, sextortion, or human trafficking.
  • Parent Engagement that includes materials and presentations to be implemented in collaboration with schools, law enforcement, and hospital staff to empower parents to feel better equipped to protect their children in this digital world. The purpose is to bring children and parents together to collaborate on safe online practices.
  • SRO & Security Director Training which includes human trafficking awareness training for school resource officers and security directors from the DHS Blue Campaign.
  • Response Protocol for all school staff and contracted employees (i.e. bus drivers, custodians, cafeteria workers, coaches, etc.) to follow if a student discloses to them that they are a victim of online enticement, sextortion, or human trafficking.
  • Faculty Training which includes the recommended SOAR Human Trafficking Training for School Based Professionals. Additional awareness training through the DHS Blue Campaign, Polaris Project, The Exodus Road, Sanar Institute, and Office for Victims of Crime is also available. All the training we recommend is completely FREE.
