Red Sand Project

Recommended for Middle School & High School Students

When: Recommended to run during October, November, or December- the months leading up to Human Trafficking Awareness Month in January.
Objective: An interactive art installation designed to raise human trafficking awareness. By spreading red sand in sidewalk cracks, the project brings attention to those who have “fallen through the cracks” in society and become victims of human trafficking.
How: Gather a group of 15 or more people for this event. Order the sand through the RedSandProject.org website here. It’s FREE, but you must pay for shipping. Allow up to seven days for order processing and additional time for shipping. Find a location to pour the sand outside of your school. As a group, pour the red sand in sidewalk cracks and highlight the ways people are vulnerable to exploitation. Share pictures of your school’s campaign on social media using the hashtags: #RedSandProject.
