FAQ

Are there New Jersey Student Learning Standards that address Human Trafficking Education?

Yes, New Jersey has specific student learning expectations related to human trafficking.

The NJSLS-CHPE, Standard 2.3 on Personal Safety, includes performance expectations addressing human trafficking, trafficker recruitment tactics, digital safety, sexting, and sextortion. The NJDOE Human Trafficking Prevention Guidelines provide additional recommendations for K–12 prevention, awareness, and response. Connect for Freedom’s prevention education meets and exceeds these standards.

How do we get started with the program?

Talk to your principal and/or superintendent.

We recommend you start a conversation about the Connect for Freedom program and discuss the program overview, implementation guide, response protocol, etc. This can all be found on our K-12 page under Superintendents/Principals.

Does our school need a resolution with the Board of Education?

Maybe...

We recommend you contact your superintendent to discuss what your school district requires. While all schools have different procedures and protocols, we do offer a sample resolution below.

Where do you get your information from?

The government and reputable organizations.

All of our information is sourced from government agencies, research institutions, and nonprofits. Our materials come from the DHS Blue Campaign, National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, Polaris Project, The Exodus Road, Thorn, The Dibble Institute, etc.

We are interested in having a human trafficking survivor come speak to our students. Is this possible?

Yes, and we think this is a great idea!

The NJ Coalition Against Human Trafficking has survivors of human trafficking who have lived experience and will share the ways traffickers exploited their vulnerabilities and show how they are empowered today to help prevent others from experiencing trafficking. The presentations do not contain any graphic descriptions of the trauma experienced. You can request a speaker below.
