Middletown in Monmouth County is taking action when it comes to cellphone usage and online bullying and harassment in their schools.

Their new policy requires students to turn their cellphones off while they are in class as well as banning cellphone privileges for online bullying. If any student is caught bullying another student online, whether during school hours or after school hours, that student will be banned from bringing their cellphone to school for at least five days.

“Away for the Day” is their way to create consequences for online harassment and bullying of fellow students in hopes of creating a safer environment for students and their mental health.
